When a free builder is the right call
Free builders are a genuinely good option in these situations:
You enjoy a bit of DIY
Joy and GettingMarried are well-designed tools that give you proper control over the layout and content. You will spend a few hours on it, but the end result can look good.
Your needs are straightforward
If you want a simple page with wedding details and a basic RSVP, just names and whether people are coming, the free tier of most platforms covers that completely.
Budget is a real constraint
Wedding costs add up. If £299–499 is money you would rather spend elsewhere, a free builder is the sensible call. The free tools are genuinely capable, not stripped-down versions of something better.
You have time to spare
Building a wedding website takes a few hours, and updating it as plans change takes more. If you have that time and do not mind spending it this way, the DIY route is perfectly reasonable.
When done-for-you is worth £299
The fee isn't for the technology. Any of the free tools can build a working site. It's for the hours of design work, the skill that goes into it, and having someone accountable for the result.
Your time during planning has real value
Couples building their own site typically spend four to eight hours on it, and that's before updates as plans change. If you've got better things to do with those hours, the fee starts to look pretty reasonable.
You want something that does not look like a template
Free platforms give you templates, which means your site shares its basic structure with thousands of other couples on the same service. We build yours from scratch around your photos, colours, and the feel of your day.
You want a person accountable for the result
With a DIY tool, if something doesn't look right, it's on you to fix. With us, it's our job. You've got a direct email address, not a help centre.
The free preview removes the financial risk
We build your actual site first, then share it before anything is due. Not a mockup, not a template demo with your names swapped in. You pay when you're happy with it. The £299 isn't a gamble.
Common Questions
Is a paid wedding website worth it?
Depends what matters to you. If you're happy building it yourself and a template is fine, a free builder is a perfectly good choice. It's worth paying when your time is tight, you want a design that looks like yours rather than a template, and you'd rather have one person responsible for the result.
What's the catch with free wedding websites?
Time and templates, mainly. You build it yourself, which usually means a few hours of setup, writing content, and sorting photos. The design is limited to whichever templates the platform offers, so your site might look similar to other couples on the same service. Some free tiers also cap guest numbers or put better RSVP features behind a paywall.
Can I see my RSVPmadeSimple website before paying?
Yes. We build your site, then share a preview link before anything is due. You review it, ask for changes, and only pay when you're happy with how it looks.
How long does a done-for-you wedding website take to build?
Usually about two weeks from when you fill in your portal. We handle all the design, build, and setup. Most couples spend under an hour on their side, sharing photos, event details, and colour ideas through their portal.
Which free wedding website builder is best in the UK?
GettingMarried is the most UK-focused of the three, with a UK-based team and GDPR compliance clearly stated. Joy has the most complete RSVP system on the free tier, with meal choices and dietary fields. Bridebook makes more sense if you want a full wedding planning tool that also includes a website. All three are self-build though, you do the work yourself.
Do free wedding websites show adverts to my guests?
We couldn't confirm this for all platforms. When we checked the live sites we didn't find ads on the wedding website pages themselves, but it's worth reading each platform's terms before you publish. RSVPmadeSimple sites have no ads or upsells shown to your guests.
Is RSVPmadeSimple right for us if we're comfortable with technology?
Not necessarily. Being comfortable with tech mainly means you won't get frustrated by the build, but it still takes the same time. Most people who come to us are perfectly capable of using a free tool, they just don't want to spend evenings on a wedding website when there's already so much else going on. If you enjoy that kind of thing and have time for it, a free builder is a completely reasonable choice.
